Garden Care
Chopsticks low cost garden and home maintenance service assists around 70 older and disabled people living in the Northallerton, Thirsk and Bedale areas.
On a regular basis Chopsticks members support the local community by providing grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, general cleaning, odd jobs and painting services. The low cost scheme is between £6.50 and £15.00 per visit depending on the work involved. Clients are normally visited on a fortnightly basis
Chopsticks’ members are supported by the full time Garden Care Supervisor to undertake their tasks.
By assisting disabled or older people with their strenuous tasks the scheme enables older people and people with disabilitiesd to remain in and enjoy their homes, consequently postponing the need for them to enter residential care.
All activities provide an opportunity for our members to:
- Access real work activities
- Participate in a member led society
- Overcome social exclusion
- Improve the quality of life
- Boost their self esteem and confidence
- Feel valued by providing a needed service to the community
Referrals to the scheme can be made by contacting Chopsticks direct or via various agencies such as NYCC Social Services Directorate, Age Concen and Carers Centers.
