Workshop

What do we do at Chopsticks? We chop sticks! In 1995 a group of resourceful members with learning disabilities started to chop firewood from scrap timber under the name ‘Chopsticks’; creating who we are today! Our main activity here is the production of premium grade kindling and other wood fuels made from timber which would have otherwise been sent to landfill. Our members chop, sort and pack our timber which is then sold to YOU so each bag you buy goes towards the growth and development of our members and our charity! We are proud to be BSL (biomass suppliers list) authorised meaning that we do our bit for the environment too!

Kindling

Kindling

Kindling is our main product, and our members are involved in the cutting, chopping, and packing of it all. We do have different sized bags for sale, but our most popular is the large bag of sticks. This retails at about £8 a bag, although the price can vary between our retailers. Visit the ‘buy our kindling’ page to find the nearest supplier of our sticks.

Hardwood Blocks

Some of the wood we source is hard wood which does not go to waste, as our members cut and pack it into bags and sell it to you as blocks for your fire. These bags are the same size as the large bag of sticks and retail at around £7 a bag.

Biomass chips

Biomass woodchip

Chopsticks have a wood chipping machine at the workshop that is used to produce biomass woodchip fuel, made from clean waste timber that is not suitable to produce our kindling. The fuel has an extremely low moisture content, making it a high-quality product. It is used in our own biomass boiler to heat the building and water, so we have very little waste wood that we do not make use of.

Woodsure

Woodsure is the UK's only quality assurance certification scheme for woodfuel and we are Woodsure assured! This means our ready to burn woodfuel has a moisture content consistently below 20%. In practice we aim to be below 10% moisture content.
