We are
Chopsticks
Chopsticks is a small, community-focused organisation supporting adults with learning disabilities through meaningful, hands-on work.
Our members spend their days making kindling from donated timber, creating wooden gifts, tending local gardens, helping neighbours and learning new skills that build confidence and independence.
It’s a warm, steady place where people feel welcomed and encouraged. Progress happens one day at a time, and every achievement, big or small, is noticed and celebrated.

Our Values
These values shape daily life at Chopsticks and guide how we support our members.
Values
Inclusion
Everyone is welcomed and given the support they need to grow at their own pace. Every person matters.
Sustainability
We use what we have wisely. Donated timber and community support become useful, meaningful products.
Purpose
Work here has real value. Every task helps someone build routine, confidence and everyday skills that make a difference in their lives.
What We Do
Our work is hands-on, practical and built around giving adults with learning disabilities the chance to learn, grow and take pride in what they do.
Workshop
The heart of Chopsticks. Members turn donated timber into kindling while building practical skills, confidence and routine in a safe, friendly environment.
Community Outreach
Person-led support across North Yorkshire. We help adults stay connected, independent and confident with everyday life, supported by a small, trusted team.
Garden Care
Members work alongside staff to mow lawns, trim hedges and keep local gardens looking their best. It’s practical outdoor work that builds skills, strength and pride.
Employability Skills
Gentle, supported steps towards work. Members learn routines, build experience and explore opportunities in a way that feels comfortable and safe.
ChopShed
A creative woodwork and upcycling workshop where members transform donated timber into furniture, home décor and personalised gifts. It’s a space that builds skills, confidence and independence through hands-on craftsmanship.
Laser Cutting Room
A supportive, creative space where members design and make personalised gifts using modern cutting technology, learning digital design alongside practical making.
Our Members
Our members are at the centre of everything we do. Their achievements, confidence and personalities shape the heart of Chopsticks – from fixing equipment together to celebrating a job finished well.
